Impact of physical effort on von Willebrand factor’s activity and concentration in blood
2020
Background and Study Aim: Physical exercise causes a wide range of physiological changes including the production and release of haemostasis regulating factors. One of these factors is von Willebrand factor (vWf)- a glycoprotein responsible for both platelet adhesion and coagulation cascade. Material and Methods: The impact of physical effort on von Willebrand’s factor’s concentration (vWf:Ag) and activity (vWf:CBA) underwent analysis in the group of 42 people (22 men and 20 women) aged 19-22 (mean 20, SD 8 months). Physical effort was induced by 35 minutes of swimming in indoor swimming pool. Results: Physical exercise in form of swimming causes an increase of Willebrand’s factor’s concent…
Hemodynamic Effects of Ventricular Pacing
1985
Fixed rate ventricular pacing is used in most cases of implanted pacemakers. It does not usually create considerable hemodynamic problems, as the heart, by its adaptation mechanism, is capable of varying its pump performance to meet the metabolic needs[1,3].
Increased average longevity among the "Tour de France" cyclists.
2011
It is widely held among the general population and even among health professionals that moderate exercise is a healthy practice but long term high intensity exercise is not. The specific amount of physical activity necessary for good health remains unclear. To date, longevity studies of elite athletes have been relatively sparse and the results are somewhat conflicting. The Tour de France is among the most gruelling sport events in the world, during which highly trained professional cyclists undertake high intensity exercise for a full 3 weeks. Consequently we set out to determine the longevity of the participants in the Tour de France, compared with that of the general population. We studi…
''High-Intensity Interval Training in Cardiac Rehabilitation''
2012
Guiraud, Thibaut | Nigam, Anil | Gremeaux, Vincent | Meyer, Philippe | Juneau, Martin | Bosquet, Laurent; International audience; ''High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is frequently used in sports training. The effects on cardiorespiratory and muscle systems have led scientists to consider its application in the field of cardiovascular diseases. The objective of this review is to report the effects and interest of HIIT in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and heart failure (HF), as well as in persons with high cardiovascular risk. A non-systematic review of the literature in the MEDLINE database using keywords 'exercise', 'high-intensity interval training', 'interval training'…
Is Moderate Intensity Cycling Sufficient to Induce Cardiorespiratory and Biomechanical Modifications of Subsequent Running?
2017
Walsh, JA, Dawber, JP, Lepers, R, Brown, M, and Stapley, PJ. Is moderate intensity cycling sufficient to induce cardiorespiratory and biomechanical modifications of subsequent running? J Strength Cond Res 31(4): 1078-1086, 2017-This study sought to determine whether prior moderate intensity cycling is sufficient to influence the cardiorespiratory and biomechanical responses during subsequent running. Cardiorespiratory and biomechanical variables measured after moderate intensity cycling were compared with control running at the same intensity. Eight highly trained, competitive triathletes completed 2 separate exercise tests; (a) a 10-minute control run (no prior cycling) and, (b) a 30-minut…
